Opening Night Film Premiere Highlights

The Greenwich International Film Festival was thrilled to present BENDING THE ARC as our 2017 Opening Night Film, sponsored by WMC Health Network. This empowering documentary represents everything the Festival believes in and demonstrates how to Make An Impact in small communities to solve a much bigger problem. Directed by Kief Davidson & Pedro Kos, this powerful film about an extraordinary team of doctors and activists – including Paul Farmer, Jim Yong Kim, and Ophelia Dahl – whose work thirty years ago toward saving lives in a rural Haitian village grew into a global battle in the halls of power for the right to health for all. Epic, yet intimate, the film is a compelling argument for the power of collective and personal vision and will to turn the tide of history.

Following this incredible film, GIFF hosted a moving Q&A discussion about the state of global health today and how to Make An Impact in the most desperate of places. The discussion included screenwriter and producer Cori Stern, film subjects Ophelia Dahl and Joia Mukherjee, and Dr. Rifat Latifi, Chief of General Surgery at Westchester Medical Center. In addition to these Q&A participants, GIFF was honored to have Global Health Corps CEO & Co-founder Barbara Pierce Bush, who offered a unique perspective on what are the challenges today in the global health crisis. Thank you to WMC Health Network for sponsoring this enlightening film screening and Q&A; you made our Opening Night Film Premiere truly unforgettable!
