Oscar Glam

The Academy Awards historically has and always will be Hollywood’s most glamorous night! In a city already known for glitter and glam, Oscar night is the grand finale of a months long awards season in which everything else up to this point has literally been a dress rehearsal. Our very own GIFF Board Member and Greenwich resident, stylist Ali Wolfe has given us her 5 Fab Finds and tips on how to get the celebrity Oscar Glam look for your own Red Carpet Experience.

The Face– About a week to a few days before any special event, you want to make sure your skin has a healthy, clear glow with a facial. I first learned about celebrities Meg Ryan and Emmy Rossum’s best kept skin secret, The Face Place from actress, Rashida Jones. Her own mother, the gorgeously age-less Peggy Lipton has been coming here since her Mod Squad days. With locations in both West Hollywood and New York City’s Meatpacking district, they have been using the same exact techniques of cleansing, extraction and oxygenation to make sure your skin is rejuvenated, firm and vibrant for the past 40 years.

The Frock & Shoes—Since winning Project Runway in 2008, Christian Siriano has been designing red carpet frocks for celebrities like Jessica Chastain, Sarah Hyland and most recently Lady Gaga for the prestigious Oscar nominee luncheon in Beverly Hills. His designs are as exquisite and elegant as he is. Whether or not you are a celebrity, he makes sure all his clients’ that come to his Manhattan atelier get the five-star treatment and feel special and glamorous.

I love this elegant and playful fuchsia ball gown skirt paired with the flirty, sexy strapless top from Christian Siriano’s Pre-fall 2016 collection. For me, it is both an effortlessly comfortable and exquisite look. Plus, the skirt has pockets to make your I-phone that much more accessible for taking selfies with celebrities. It also is a style that works well on most body types.

Paired with these fabulous crystal embellished silver sandals from Guiseppe Zanotti, you are almost ready to make your grand entrance…

The Jewels— It would not be a red carpet glam moment without some glitz to add to all this glam. Betteridge Jewelers in Greenwich has been the choice location for the finest baubles and beads for an exclusive international clientele since 1897. With the assistance of buyer Brooke Betteridge, we chose layered art-deco style diamond bracelets paired with a dramatic drop earring in platinum to match the shoes for an understated yet captivating presence. We passed on a necklace as to not take any attention away from the bow and keep the neckline minimal.

The Make-Up— Ever wonder how celebrities get that Red Carpet Glow? Charlotte Tilbury, make-up artist to stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Kate Moss and Rhianna, has created magic in a bottle. Use her Wonder Glow Instant Soft-Focus Beauty Flash under your favorite foundation for an instant luminous, glowing complexion.

The Hair—Nothing is worse than a bad hair moment to completely ruin an otherwise amazing red carpet look. For this dress and jewelry ensemble, I think it is important to accentuate the dramatic earring and bow detail with an up-do. I always prefer a romantic braid up-do as opposed to an antiquated chignon which can look aging. I love this one that celebrity hairdresser Dimitres Giannetos recently did for Scream Queens star Skyler Samuels.
